The long wait is over for Asian and Australian fans of the iPhone. Apple Inc., makers of iPhone, and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. are set to bring the iPhone craze to Asia. No longer would they have to settle for iPhone clones and look-a-likes, they would soon experience the superb functionality of a genuine iPhone. The iPhone is a great mobile companion with its multitasking functions. You can use it as a regular cell phone, a pocket pc and an iPod player. And the most exciting part of is that you can go sliding and gliding with its full touch screen display.

Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., together with its affiliates, spearheads the launching of iPhone in three Asian countries namely Singapore, Philippines, India and in Australia. The sale of iPhone in Asia is one way to keep up with Apple Inc.'s goal that is to reach the sales of 10 million handsets within 2008.

In India, Bharti Airteld Ltd would be handling the iPhone distributorship. It is India's most popular mobile operator with over 250 million subscribers on their list. This company is one of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd.'s affiliate owning 30% of the company.

Optus would be offering the famed iPhone to Australia. Globe Telecom, one of the biggest wireless service providers in Philippines, would be handling the sales of the iPhone in the said country. Globe Telecom is owned by Ayala Corporation, a local conglomerate of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd.

Apple Inc. representative announced that the iPhone would be launched in the said countries later this year. But when will iPhone reach Japan and China? This is one question that Apple decline to answer.

Apple Inc. reached a 1.7 million unit sales by the end of March. Such a small number compared to its goal of 10 million unit sales by the end of the year. Aside from iPhone sales in Asia, the company is also looking to partner up with numerous European wireless service providers to offer iPhone in their respective countries.
