ATT MediaFLO Mobile TV Delayed

MediaFLO USA's mobile TV service for ATT has been postponed until early 2008. More than eight months after committing to launching the service by the end of the year, and seven months after Verizon Wireless launched the service last March, the No. 1 carrier confirmed that its subscribers won’t enjoy broadcast mobile TV until early next year.

ATT is now aiming to launch the MediaFLO-powered service in January or February of next year.

AT&T Mobility declined to comment further on what might have caused the delay, only saying that there have been no issues with hardware or applications in several months of testing.

MediaFLO declined to comment and directed all questions regarding the delay to AT&T Mobility.

That is to bad for ATT&T subscribers.

  2. Amitabh Kumar Says:

The US market has been always differnt in respect of both handsets as well as the services, with 3G-UMTS as well as GSM coming much later. MobiTV, which provides streaming TV services has over 2 million customers in the Americas. We believe that once FLO is launched in 2008, it will have a strong take up. There also have been a number of events such as launch of iPhone, which does not support mobile TV ( at least the FLO or DVB-H versions) which have kept attention away from the mobile TV itself.
With large storage in devices, and people carrying all the songs and videos they need with them all the time, it is mostly news and live events which are meaningful for this medium.
