AT&T, To Offer Mobile TV in 2008

With over 65 million subscribers, AT&T is set to improve its mobile phone services for its existing costumers and would-be subscribers. With video players improving with every handset launched in the market, a lot of mobile phone users are clamoring for Mobile TV in their cell phones. Hearing this call, AT&T is planning to launch its Mobile TV service as early as January of next year- 2008.

AT&T costumers with compatible phones can now watch television wherever they may be. You do not need to carry along your entire TV system to enjoy your favorite TV show- all you need is your mobile phone. AT&T subscribers can enjoy a total of eight channels. You can enjoy music and videos from MTV Networks or catch the news at ESPN, NBC, CBS and Fox. Specifically, viewers can enjoy live linear channels through CBS Mobile, NBC News2Go, Fox Mobile, ESPN Mobile TV, NBC2Go, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and MTV. All channels are being offered by MediaFLO.
Qualcomm's MediaFLO is coordinating with AT&T in giving its subscribers optimum quality on video feeds and audio. This is the same company that is giving Verizon Wireless the technology behind its V CAST Mobile TV.
The creation of Mobile TV was planned some time ago but development of the service took some time and delayed the launch of the said service. AT&T is determined to give its subscribers top quality viewing experience and they do not need to rush things. Mark Siegel, AT&T's media relations executive director, said that both phone hardware and the application itself are tested over and over again and they wanted to make sure that it is working 100% with top quality videos and audio.
So for those subscribers who are TV addicts (and who isn't) you may just have to wait a month longer. Mobile TV for AT&T is set to hit the market this January 2008.
