A new study has shown that extended cell phone use causes hearing loss/damage. I'm not sure who pays the big money for these projects, but it doesn't take an ear scientist to figure out that prolonged use of high volumed devices shoved in your ear will damage it.

One doctor found that those who had used the phone for more than 60 minutes total a day for over four years had noticeable losses in high frequency hearing.

It's starting to be a problem. No only are electronics like old computers starting to pile up in landfills, old cell phones are mounting as well. Although smaller than a computer, cell phones do carry harmful batteries that when disposed of incorrectly can pose a greater negative impact on the environment. We haven't heard of any real initiative on broad scale by anybody looking to step in and recycle old phones--or at least keep them out of the landfills. Of course, that's to be expected since in order to start a program to recycle old phones it has to be profitable at the end of the day.
