China Finally Welcomes Blackberry
Finally, Blackberry is finding its own niche in mainland China, according to Research in Motion (RIM)—this, after almost a decade of trying.
Through James L. Balsillie, another chief executive of RIM, it was announced through a conference call that Blackberry will soon expand its market by entering China.
It was also during the talk with the analysts that Balsillie conveyed his deepest desire to meet the demands of customers who belong to world-renowned Chinese cities, such as Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai. They have long been waiting for the Blackberry to be sold in retail telecommunications stores.
This has also been one of the best times to sell Blackberry in China, considering that RIM has found stiff competition with Apple’s iPhone, which has been resting on its laurels after its impressive debut sometime in June and is now gaining momentum when it comes to sales.
Though both the Blackberry and iPhone share similar features, they also have stark differences. For one, Blackberry caters to individuals who are looking for different wireless services such as Internet faxing, mobile telephone, and e-mailing. The iPhone, on the other hand, tends to combine the key features of a designer phone and iPod.
RIM is expecting to have their Blackberries shipped and available to the Chinese market before August is over. Hopefully, it will be enough to meet the current advanced orders of retail stores, which already soared to 5,000.
Besides China, Japan and India have already embraced the Blackberry fever. Nevertheless, RIM is believes that the rise in demand of their handset in China will further propel them to the top, and investing in such country is definitely worth their wait.
The release of iPhone gives RIM the opportunity to reinvent their Blackberry phones, which have been around since 1999. Their innovation, moreover, is needed so they can meet the current production demand of China, which is well-known for its huge population density.
So far, there are almost 10 million worldwide subscribers of Blackberry, 1.2 million of them being reported in their Q1 statistics. RIM is also experiencing increase in profits despite the emergence of new wireless mobile phones in the market.
