It seems the USA is ready to move ahead in some areas to ban DWT - or 'driving while texting'. The dangerous activity is worse than talking on the phone since you have to avert your eyes to your tiny keypad to accomplish your texting. In an effort to keep motorist safe and attentive, the Assembly has approved a bill that would ban driving-while-texting, and at the same time make using a hand-held cell phone a primary driving offense.




The bill would enable police officers to pull over and ticket motorists for either gabbing on a phone without a hands-free device, or using a text message device.

Driving and using a hand-held phone can already get you a ticket, but under current law police can't pull you over just for that. Under the new bill they could do so, whether or not you're violating any other traffic law at the time.

The Assembly vote was 68-12.
