Foldable Screen Cell Phone to Come this Midyear

One of the reasons why a lot of people are craving for an Apple iPhone is its whopping 3.5 inches LCD screen. Watching videos would definitely be a delight with an iPhone. If you are hurting your eyes browsing the Internet with your traditional cell phone screen, you would be excited to hear that a Dutch company is cooking up a new device called Readius that can actually offer cell phone users a wider screen display by adding a foldable screen on its handset. It is rumored to be out by the middle of this year!

The device is referred to as the Readius. It is a 5-inch screen display that you can fold and unfold. The only downside to this new technology is that it is still in its black and white version with a total of 16 gray shades. At 5 inches, it is almost twice the size of your regular cell phone screen.

Polymer Vision, the maker and developer of Readius, is a company used to be under Philip Electronics. The handset is a HSPDA phone with tri-band features. Of course, it would be capable of Internet access and web browsing would truly be an experience with its big screen display. You can check and read your e-mails with this device. It even supports IMAP and POP3 e-mails. It comes with an expandable memory storage and slot for a microSD card. You can have fun with this phone all day with its 30 hours of battery life.

Karl McGoldrick, CEO of Polymer Vision, wanted to give consumers the comfort of a large display screen without the hassle of carrying bulky handsets. There are a lot of cell phone users who would want a wider screen but would be disappointed with the design and style of the device itself. To put a solution to this, Philips created a technology to create cell phone screens that are capable of folding. The first ever prototype of Readius was made public in 2005.

The Readius gadget sounds pretty exciting, we only hope that the foldable screen would be durable enough to withstand normal wear. Well, there's no way to find out but to wait for its launch come mid-2008 and see for ourselves.
