Mixed reactions from the launch of Euro-iPhone
For iPhone users, the two obvious questions revolving in their minds right now is whether Apple Inc can keep up it’s sales in the United States and the second question how will it fare in the international market.
To get an idea regarding this, you have for the quarterly results and market opinions. This news will be in late January or early February. The next phase is the results from the United Kingdom, France, Germany etc., since this iphone went on sale in these countries in late November.
The whole future of this iphone lies on how it fares in these countries and it’s a must for every trade analyst to guage this story, otherwise he/she’s missing out on the most major business news according to Ryan Reith.
Europeans are more interested in new gadgets more than Americans, but they depend on choice. Europeans are not much in favor of Apple’s iphone named cachet as Americans. Apple has majority sales in the United States, which is obvious from it’s figures, 60% in US, 40% in United Kingdom and only 20% in the rest of Europe which is not a good sign.
A London based analyst Goode says that this is not good news for Apple. This has happened according to him because most Europeans prefer prepaid services and thus they get such MP3 gadgets free of charge and wouldn’t prefer to go to buy one in the market, in this regard therefore they prefer Nokia’s N95 for free . 3G data speed is missing in the Apple iphones and the users of Apple are mostly 3G subscribers. The major hindrance in Apple’s success in this regard is not having HSDPA.
Sony also bound to feel the pressure since it’s walkmans and iphones have the same problems according to Goode. This pressure is felt by Nokia too after Sony according to him.
Pete Cunningham says iphones main competitor is it’s sister product closely related to it only, the ipod touch, which is almost similar to it, only that it doesn’t have a telephone service or a service contract.
The final straw came when Apple had no choice but to launch this new device because people in Europe are preferring to but mobile phones based on the flexibility offered by the MP3 players on their mobiles.

The iphone is over-rated.

One of the big problems I think is that the iPhone is only available from one service provider at the moment which certainly limits its appeal if you are contracted to another service provider. I love my gadgets but you're right when you talk about obtaining phones free on contract. I change my contract and get a free phone every 12-18 months.
