Mobile Phones Raise Productivity and Multitasking Ability
Nokia recently conducted a global online survey, according to which, mobile phones increase the productivity and multitasking ability of users around the world. Nokia conducted this survey through its website, between October 15 and November 1, 2007, and 5,000 people from United Kingdom, Spain, Finland, Italy, China, Brazil, Germany, Denmark, France, USA, Sweden, and Norway participated in this survey.
A whopping 80 percent of these respondents said that their mobile phones enable them to strike a positive balance between work and social life. 63 percent said that their mobile phones make them more productive at work, and 74 percent said that their mobile phones make them better at multitasking.
The results of the survey showed that a large percentage of mobile phone users claimed to be productive, busy, or good at multitasking. 79 percent of the respondents claimed to be good at multitasking; 50 percent claimed to be productive, and 31 percent said that they were busy. Of the respondents who claimed to be good at multitasking, 62 percent said that they do internet browsing and shopping while making a call. 75 percent of the women said that they could prepare food, and 50 percent said that they could apply makeup while using their mobile phones. However, 48 percent of the respondents said that making a call was the only thing of importance for them.
The Nokia survey revealed some fun facts too. The use of a mobile phone while multitasking can lead a person into amusing and embarrassing situations. 47 percent of the respondents sent a romantic or a controversial text message to the wrong person when they were multitasking with a mobile phone in hand, and of these 56 percent were women.
The survey also revealed that out of 21 nations that participated, the best multitasking nations were Denmark and Norway, while the Finnish, comprising 74 percent of the respondents, were the most relaxed of them all.
“The use of the mobile phone is on the rise,” said Dom Fried-Booth, Insights Director of Nokia. “Mobile phones offer a variety of features, such as, calendars, e-mail, and text messages. People use them not just to make calls. Mobile phone features enable people to be more productive at work, while keeping track of their social and domestic lives at the same time. It is clear that mobile phones are helping people get what they want out of life.”
This is considered to be the industry’s most comprehensive consumer survey, and the credit for it goes to Nokia . The company has compiled more than 10 billion data points after interviewing 77,000 consumers in 21 countries. The study has led to a unique, in-depth understanding of consumer behavior, beliefs, and values.
