Nissan Altima or Infiniti’s G35 I-Keys Shocked by Cell Phones
Do you own a Nissan Altima or Infiniti's G35 sedan? Do you know somebody who does? Does this person (who might I add can afford a nice car) also have a cell phone? By chance do you suspect this person will ever put their keys and their cell phone in the same pocket or purse? I've got news for you, somebody may be without a key shortly.
I-keys Deleted when too close to cell phones
Some I-Key's from Nissan cars mentioned above may leave owners stranded keyless if placed to close to cellular devices. Nissan claimed that owners of the 2007 Altima and G35 should make sure "intelligent keys" are kept at least "one inch away" from their cellphone at all times. Getting too close may cause the key to be "erased, rendering them unable to unlock or start the car."
A Nissan spokesperson stated that the company found "incoming and outgoing calls had the potential to alter the electronic code within the I-Key." Forget about going to the dealer for a fix too, these keys are dead beyond repair. Apparently only a 'very small percentage' of the keys sold were affected.

I love the keyless feature on my '07 Altima. I am a rep visiting auto dealers all day long. I get in and out of my car at least a 12 to 16 times a day. It may sound dumb to some people, but this keyless system and push button start is a huge time saver. I don't have to dig in my pants to get out my keys so I can push a button to unlock the doors and I don't have to put a key in the ignition. It seems so simple yet it is such a great feature like the nissan exhaust that I hope I never have to go back to the old ways. Oh, and thank you blog for the heads up on the issue.

However, remember that it's only a small percentage of keys known to have the problem.

This happened to me- I was "lucky" enough to be in my town, called one of my friends. asked him to take me home for the second set of keys.... Thought was the batterie, changed it and still not work- this isnt fun- I can't start to imagine, how would of be if I was far from home?... Pretty scary.

It is fine if you carry a spare key with you. I don't and only carry a tiny purse with my phone and key and on one can tell if my phone is 'safe' or if my key will not be affected.Their company letter indicated we would all be getting new keys in the fall of 2007. I asked when I was getting my key. The answer is when I give them the $18 per key because my happens to not be busted but no can tell me if I am at risk. So I am put to the trouble of keeping them apart which is an inconvenience to me because of their flaw and they won't replace it. Oh and I said well my key is affected, their reply we will test it and if it is not defected then we won't replace it for free. Nice customer service jerks. And I used to really like this company.

Seems to me Nissan could give away those fixed keys to people who buy the 35+K car.
