Foleo Foolish From the Get Go

A few months ago we reported that Palm was looking to release an inbetween device that was half laptop and half PDA. It didn't have all the functions of a high powered lap top, nor did it have all the functions of a phone. In fact, it was pretty much the same as a nice Pocket PC but three times the size. The Palm Foleo turns out won't be hitting mainstream retailers for a while. Palm figured out that the idea was probably doomed from conception.



Apparently they're still looking at some sort of second generation conception of the device as stipulated on their CEO's blog.

From his words,

I have decided to cancel the Foleo mobile companion product in its current configuration and focus all of our energies on delivering our next generation platform and the first smartphones that will bring this platform to market. We will, of course, continue to develop products in partnership with Microsoft on the Windows Mobile platform, but from our internal platform development perspective, we will focus on only one.

It's a shame, the Foleo would have been good to laugh at periodically. Were people really going to get a laptop, cell phone, AND foleo? That's just foolish.
