Nokia Siemens to Acquire Apertio
More than a manufacturer of handsets, Nokia Siemens is expanding its reach and services to delight its costumers all over the world. The mobile giant is set to buy Apertio, a company whose expertise is on network management for mobile phone carriers. Nokia Siemens is rumored to put down a whopping 205 million USD for the said acquisition.
Apertio is based in Bristoll England. It specializes in creating and developing software applications that can manage subscribers of cell phone networks. Among its present clients include Orange, O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone. The company's revenue last year reached €28 million.
There are basically three things that are the key works of the company. One, it can authenticate subscribers and delivers specific applications to them. Second, it has the ability to shut down handsets, which is usually used for security purposes if your cell phone is lost or stolen. Third, it can also collect data from subscribers in real time.
Managing subscriber's information is very important. Organizing these data is also an important factor in evaluating what the present consumers need. Today, cell phone carriers are more concerned on how mobile phone services can be converged and managed properly. Since there are a lot of things that one can do with a cell phone, including internet service, SMS and MMS messaging and voice calls, it is of prime important to keep subscriber's data organized and well-managed.
The acquisition of Apertio is set to put Nokia Siemens on top of its game. The agreement is projected to be inked in May of this year. Paul Magelli, CEO of Apertio, would have his own place at the Converged Core department of Nokia Siemens as soon as the deal is closed.
