Nokia to Launch High-End Web and Mobile Mapping Service

Nokia is one of the pioneer manufacturers who offer GPS-enabled cell phones to the market. This service allows users to easily track down locations via virtual maps that anyone can access anytime. Nokia is always wanted to improve its GPS services and offer highly sophisticated web & mobile mapping service… now comes Maps 2.0.

Nokia is set to take its GPS service to a higher level with web integration. In a demonstration that they had earlier, the company presented a conference called "Where 2.0" held in Burlingame, California, Nokia showed the capabilities and new features of the said mobile navigation program.

Aside from visually presenting location maps, Nokia Maps 2.0 is also capable of offering voice navigation, which can be very handy when you are traveling and driving. Nokia also offers its GPS service as a stand alone program to Nokia phones. This means, that even if you are out of coverage area, you can still use the service. It is a network-independent service and you can use it anytime you need it. You also don’t need to download the maps and pay for license to use this service. It would be offered at a much lower price of $14 which is paid by most users on a monthly basis to access certain regional maps. Nokia would take payment via credit card which would also reflect on user's monthly cell phone bill.

Ovi, a company who is officially partnering with Nokia to give consumers such service, is also in the business of photo sharing and mobile music content. Venturing on Maps and GPS services this time, Nokia and Ovi promises to give travelers a hassle free way of going though Maps and finding certain locations that they need to find in a matter of minutes.

With Ovi, Nokia allows users to sync up their Nokia handset and the web. Syncing would require users to avail of their service provider's data plan and the presence of network connectivity. There are hundreds of practical uses of the Nokia GPS service. For instance if you are looking for a restaurant in a particular area, you can locate it, save it, and later send it to your handset whenever you need it. You can do your searches on a Nokia handset or via your desktop/ laptop.
