Phone Stories - Telus LG 245 (Red) Review
DiscussWireless presents this second installment in a series of cell phone interviews with regularly consumers just like you! If you want to participate in this series please contact us.
1. Your vitals:
Welcome Kathryn who owns a LG 245 (Red). He owned the phone for over 2 months on the CDMA network of Telus Mobility in Canada.
2. What made you choose your current phone? Was it size, colour, features, look, etc.?
In order, the things that made me choose my current phone were: width, the flip style, the way the keypad was set up, the way the menu was set up (on the screen), price, colour (red and silver), and weight.
3. Were you looking for some specific feature in your phone?
Mostly size and style/design.
4. Phones are meant to be used to call people, however, nowadays cell phone do much more. What kind of additional features do you regularly use?
Text messaging, voicemail, calculator, EX tip calculator, alarm clocks, caller ID, call history, address book/contacts, camera phone, display settings, and the calendar.
5. What kind of messaging features do you use? Do you think it’s easy and convenient?
Text messaging and voicemail. Both are fairly convenient, but it irritates me that I’m not only charged to have a voicemail, but I'm charged whenever I check it too. It also irritates me that the text that can be sent is greater than the text that can be received (receiving large text messages that have to be split into two parts).
6. Tell me about the cool things you like about your phone (the pros). What are the key features you use regularly?
Text messaging, calling, caller ID, voicemail, the calculator, the EZ tip calculator, the alarm clocks, calendar, and the address book/contacts.
7. Any feature missing that you would have liked (the cons). Any features available but don’t work as well as you'd like?
I would like more options in the display settings, or maybe a way to personalize different colours. I don’t like the Internet feature on my phone – it takes too long to load, too long to go from one page to another, and the pages themselves are disjointed.
8. When will you buy a new phone and will you stick with a similar brand and type?
If there's nothing better when I buy a new phone, probably.
9. If you own a smartphone (PDA) why did you choose it (or why didn’t you choose one)?
I don't really know what a smartphone is, but from what I've heard it has far more features than I need at the moment.
10. With your provider do you get reliable service?
Yes, but only because I haven’t needed anything special (overseas talking, customer service help, etc)
11. Ever had a weird phone call, wrong number?
I had a wrong # for a text message once, and another time I received several text messages from the number '0000' and I think someone was trying to send me a virus, but I don’t know for certain.
12. Tells about the most important time your phone came in handy.
My phone came in most handy when I was taking the bus home later one night and had to call the bus line to find out when the next bus was coming and subsequently (since all the buses were no longer running), had to call a cab.
13. Do you have a favourite picture taken with your phone or wallpaper? (If so, please attach!)
Yes – but I can’t attach it. Even so, the pictures themselves aren’t of good quality (no thanks to the camera on the phone).
14. What kind of plan do you have? How much are your service fees (not your plan, but the phantom service fees providers charge)?
I'm on a family plan. Service fees, to my knowledge, haven’t been a problem yet (though I know people that have had issues with these – such as oversees text messaging and roaming charges).
15. Additional thoughts?
I like my phone but I think I might try a different service provider for my next phone to see what they are like.
