Rogers Wireless Launch Second Voice Line Service
Rogers Wireless has launched a new service called Second Voice Line Service. The feature enables customers to have two phone numbers on one cell phone. This means easily separating business and pleasure, but it also enables users who travel a chance to call locally. Second Voice Line Service (SVLS) will permit customers to hold a second number with a different area code minimizing long distance charges as well.
If you pick up SVLS you will be able to access all the wireless features they have on your primary line directly on their second line at no extra cost. This benefit provides cost savings to customers who currently have two wireless handsets and plans.
With SVLS, if a customer has any of the following wireless features on their primary line, they can use them on their secondary line at no extra cost: Call Display Name Display Who Called Enhanced Voice Mail Call Manager Voice Mail
SVLS will also consolidate the voice mail box. If a subscriber has voice mail on their primary line, their secondary line will automatically receive voice mail at no additional cost. A shared voice mail box is created to accommodate both lines simultaneously. Each line has its own unique recorded message, but subscribers, only need to make one call to retrieve all their messages.
The handset quickly and easily identifies which line is receiving a call, with the screen displaying a "1" or a "2" when a call is received. With some devices, the display can be customized as well. Making calls on either line is just as easy. The user simply selects which line they want to make a call with, from the handsets menu, and then dials. Once a line is selected, it will remain the active outgoing line until it is changed to the other line.
SVLS price plans range from $20 per month ($20 Anytime Plan with 200 Anytime Minutes) to $30 per month ($30 Mega Time plan with unlimited network calling and unlimited evenings and weekend calling). If you ask you can probably waive the bogus $35 activation fee Canadian cell companies always charge.

I have tried to combine my 2 phone numbers on one SIM card and Rogers cannot do it. The tech support people don't know how to do it, no one does. We were troubleshooting for over one week. Wednesday the 22nd until I told them to forget about it yesterday Wednesday the 29th of August 2007.
I regularly travel to Montreal for pleasure. My friends and business are mostly in Ottawa. I carry 2 cellphones in my pockets consistently. This was supposed to be a lifesaver. Rogers' customer service is just not properly trained. They rolled out this announcement before they ironed out the kinks.
I don't know if anyone has been able to activate a second line on their rogers account.
Their systems are either always down or on maintenance mode, and so is rogers.com

T keep us posted if you get it done. I'd keep trying because the service will beat carrying two phones. I've also noticed the Rogers.com site throwing up 500 errors here and there.

I sent an email to rogers and they are trying to figure out what's wrong with my account or the network. They replied stating they would look into it and get back to me, it's only been a day after the the reply so I'll give it until after the holiday. maybe they'll fix it.

It's the 1st of September and I still cannot use my one phone and my one common SIM although the rogers bill will appear as though I have the second voice line. I tried to get the SVL on the 22nd of Aug, got fed up and told them to forget abt it on the 28th. Sent email on 29th complaining, got a reply 30th saying they'll look into it. Decided to give them a chance on the 1st to try again. Same issue as last week, my old SIM still works and I cannot make calls on my SVL on the new common SIM. At least I can make and recieve calls the normal way but I wouldhave prefered to have been using one phone by now. I'll keep you posted.

Yea please do, keep us posted. Anybody have success? I would give them till then end of the week since it will certainly be worthwhile (once it works). They shouldn't have a problem crediting your account either.

A guy on howardforums says his is working fine, he has a 647 and a 902 number on one phone. Hopefully mine should work soon too. I'm not getting off the phone with sustomer service until mine works seamlessly.
