Samsung to Offer Affordable Handsets

Samsung is on its way to topple over Nokia, but they are not quite close to that yet. Samsung has been one slot behind cell phone giant Nokia in terms of sales and popularity. In its desire to be in in the number one spot in the mobile phone industry race Samsung would be offering the market even more affordable handsets this year.

Samsung's new marketing strategy would be to tap in to the lower-end market and offer them more competitive handsets at an affordable price. This has been the strategy of Nokia all along. This Korean company would soon be offering $40- $50 dollar handsets with colored LCD screen display. Although this price is much higher than Reliance Communication's $12 cell phone, Samsung is committed to offer its costumers top quality handsets even with such a low price.

Samsung has provided luxurious and advanced phones and these handsets were enjoyed and appreciated by the high-end market. Samsung sales increase to 25% due to the increasing demand for 3G phones. This time, Samsung is eyeing on expanding its market even more by offering affordable handsets to budget-conscious consumers. Last year, the company has started producing reasonably priced phones for as low as $151.

Samsung estimated that they would be able to produce and ship 200 million handset this year compared to 160 million last 2007. The low-priced colored phones are targeted to markets of India, Latin America and South-east Asia.

Year 2007 proved to be a good year for Samsung. They replaced Motorola as the second-largest cell phone manufacturer next to Nokia. And with such success, Samsung is set to make it big in the industry this year.

The company overtook Motorola in 2007 to become the world's second largest handset maker and is trying to expand its presence in emerging markets by offering the lower-priced colored phones.
