Sanyo Thinking About Dumping Sanyo
It's seems Sanyo wants to dump their losing mobile division. The Japanese electronic maker is trying to cut losses, some firms reportedly interested include Sharp and largely quiet Kyocera.
The latest restructuring step at the Osaka-based consumer electronics maker comes after the company posted a 72 percent fall in operating profit for April-June, hit by sluggish sales of its mobile phones and higher raw materials prices.
Sanyo now expects to sell about 11 million units of mobile phones in the current business year to March 2008, down from its initial estimates of 12.5-12.6 million.
Sanyo, which has posted net losses for the past three business years, sold its stake in Sanyo Electric Credit this year and is believed to be in the process of selling its semiconductor operations.
The news comes amidst the recent restructuring Sanyo is attempting after a 72 percent drop in operating profit in recent months. Phone sales for Sanyo are now expected to fall 1.5-1.6 million short, according to the company, which has posted a net loss for the past three years and is rumored to be selling off its semiconductor operations.
