Six Easy Steps to Upgrade Your Nokia N80 Cellular Phones

If you own a Nokia N80 and you want to upgrade it to N80ie or any of the internet edition Nokia phones, here is some help for their up gradation. If you compare Nokia N80 and Nokia N80ie, you will see that the two phones have exactly same hardware. The only difference lies between the two phones is the firmware. So you can definitely upgrade the firmware of Nokia N80 to Nokia N80ie. It would be great if you could do so because Nokia N80ie has VoIP/sip support. VoIP/sip support enables you to make WLAN calls. It also allows you better WLAN support. Another important aspect of VoIP/sip is that it supports many new internet applications and also is good to fix some of the bugs.

Here are simple steps for the up gradation:

Step 1: Collect the required accessories for up gradation. They include NSS (Nemesis Service Suite), Nokia Software Updater (NSU),USB cable and Nokia PC Suite for your data back up.

Step 2: Find out whether your Nokia N80 is branded or unbranded. Nokia Software Updater (NSU) will let you upgrade the firmware only if your Nokia N80 is unbranded. Even if you have a branded Nokia N80 you can easily un brand it. You can also change the region of your phone using this step.

Step 3: Now you need to install Nemesis Service Suite (NSS). Just keep in mind that you do not chose the installation of virtual USB drivers.

Step4: Now connect the Nokia cellular phone to the USB cable and choose PC suite mode. Now Run the application and click on the magnifying glass on the right hand corner. Some test will be carried out by the software. When it completes it you will need to click the Phone Info tab.

Step5: Now in the Production Data Edit section, click on Read button. The status bar will show the reading of some values. Then a number will appear in the product code. If you want your region changed, you can do this by entering the product code of new region. Be careful when you do this as this cannot be changed till a fresh firmware is released. It is advisable that you write the old product code before you enter the new one. Enter the product code and then click on Enable check followed by Write button.

Step6: Create a back up of your phone. After backing up your data, run the Nokia Software Updater. This step will let you know whether any firmware updates are there for your phone. It may take a few moments and can run a few number of times before it finds an update for you. Now follow the messages and get the firmware loaded. Do not disturb your Nokia phone, computer or the USB cable while the upgrade is going on. Radio and microwave can also create disturbance. So, do not operate the phone while the upgrade is going on. Just leave it for some time till the upgrade is done.
