Using An Area Code To Trace A Call

A telephone number is broken down into three separate parts. That is why phone numbers in the United States, Canada, and some Caribbean countries (NANP countries) write their telephone numbers in the digit pattern 111-111-1111. The first three digits are the area code, the second group of three digits is the prefix, and the last group is called the exchange.
