Verizon Handsets to use Microsoft Applications

Cellphone Web searches using Microsoft software will soon be possible with Verizon Wireless devices. The software giant Microsoft, in its step to compete in bringing its software to handsets, is nearing to close a deal with the mobile company to be its default search provider.

In its will to win the deal over Google, the leading engine search provider, it said that it would guarantee Verizon of about 550 million dollars to 650 million dollars over five years. The offer was roundabout twice of what was offered by their rival in Internet search engines.

Furthermore, as a separate deal Microsoft was also negotiating to put its Windows Mobile software in more Verizon devices.

Combining these two deals from the software company, it would earn Verizon around one billion dollars. Also, once the agreement pushes through, the two giant companies will also share the revenue from responses in the advertisements regarding the cellphone Web searches.

Since not all the details were finalized yet, it is still not clear if Verizon, a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group PLC will be using the Windows Mobile software with an offered pay from Microsoft or allow it to use the software for free.

The two competing software, Microsoft and Google are both getting their best efforts in pushing their mobile operating systems, each seeking to make their products the default search provider on cellphones.

Google, the Internet search king is still leading in the market as the software for connecting to the Internet not only through personal computers but also through mobile phones.
