DiscussWireless presents this second installment in a series of cell phone interviews with regularly consumers just like you! If you want to participate in this series please contact us.
1. Your vitals:
Welcome again to Barry who is offering his second phone story but this time about the Motorola V635i. He owned the phone for over 2 years on the Canadian GSM network of Rogers Wireless.
2. What made you choose your current phone? Was it size, colour, features, look, etc.?
Well I broke the T720 I chatted about earlier so I wanted another flip phone. I was due for a hardware upgrade so I had some 'cash' to spend. Basically I was also looking for a music phone that was in my price range. The Nokia 6101 flip was on the menu but it only had FM stereo and Nokia was just starting with flips. I saw the Motorola V635i and noted its price compared to some of the more expensive Sony music phones. The V635i had the flash card worth 512 mb. That was big enough for me and met my music needs, I bought the phone.
3. Were you looking for some specific feature in your phone?
Like I said music features. I didn't know the software would be so cumbersome, but for the most part just the music features is what I was going for. There were camera features and such, but those were bonus.
4. Phones are meant to be used to call people, however, nowadays cell phone do much more. What kind of additional features did you regularly use?
The music feature like I said. I did use the camera portion and got Motorola Tools to make cool ringtones. All in all the camera wasn't the best though.
5. What kind of messaging features do you use? Do you think it’s easy and convenient?
I didn't use many messaging features, just me. Basic text messaging was pretty straight forward but I doubt this phone was really built for tons of messaging.
6. Tell me about the cool things you like about your phone (the pros). What are the key features you use regularly?
The music feature. Changing songs was easy, just needed the USB cable and copy and past through the computer. THe camera was spotty at best. Sometimes great pictures but most of the time stupid grainy with poor colour pictures. The games sucked, but then again, I didn't buy many.
7. Any feature missing that you would have liked (the cons). Any features available but don't work as well as you'd like?
The java software for the music feature was slow. Camera phone was hard to download (the pictures). You needed special software. However, the removable flash disk that came with a Scandisk adapter was awesome cause I could move it to my camera (real one) if I wanted.
8. When you buy a new phone and will you stick with a similar brand and type?
I've moved on from this phone and still work with Motorola, albeit, I'm willing to change next go around.
9. If you own a smartphone why did you choose it (or why didn’t you choose one)?
I didn't choose one and wouldn't due to the cost. I don't use messaging features alot so I do'nt need a smartphone at this time.
10. With your provider do you get reliable service?
Yes, as I said I generally had better coverage in hard to reach areas (in buildings) than a similar phone on the Telus network. Outside the city it was good, but in really remote areas Telus had coverage.
