Cell Phone, Wallet or Keys?

The IDC research firm together with Nortel Networks Corporation conducted a study that aims to find out which of a person’s belongings is more likely to be taken anywhere they go. 75% of the workers who participated in the study chose their cell phone over a laptop, a digital player, wallet or keys. The study requires that a participants leave one thing at home for the entire day. They could only bring with them one of their belongings and most of them choose their cell phones over the items mentioned above. This only proves that a cell phone is the most important thing for most people.

More than 2,000 people participated in the study and 38% of them chose their cell phones over their other personal stuff. A big percentage of the participants, comprising of less than 30%, chose to bring their wallets instead.

Why the study? Nortel Networks Corporation is one of the biggest manufacturers of telephone gears. They are looking for data and the number of people who are likely to bring their cell phones and gadgets with them on the go.

The research and survey gave meaning to the word “hyperconnected”. It’s a term used to describe people who actively use more than seven gadgets for both business and personal use. Hyperconnected people also use about nine device applications like internet browsing, text messaging and chat, among others. More than 30% of the respondents are also found to be “increasingly connected” and uses four devices and six applications.

The survey was done worldwide and was conducted in a total of 17 countries. It turns out that the most hyperconnected participants was found in China. The least hyperconnected people where in the countries of UAE and Canada.

Nortel would continue to manufacture gadget gears because it is likely that the percentage of hyperconnected people would skyrocket to 40% in the next 5 years. This would likely increase the demand for technology paraphernalia. With this research, Nortel was able to study its market closer and is likely to improve their sales in the future.
