Such an interesting article. But I read it too late. I had my cellphone dropped in a bucket of water weeks ago. I got the battery removed. After a few hours, I dried it with a blow dryer. Which I read is a no-no. Now my phone's dead and reads "local mode" whenever I attempt to turn it on. I got a nokia 1600 by the way. Is there any way I can revive my phone?

My 2 days old K850i slipped out of my pocket and fell into a drain pipe today. Must have been there for 30 secs max. half emerged in water. I got it out, pulled out the battery and SIM card (some keypad lights were lit when I pulled it out, didn't go to see it there was anything on the screen), shook it to remove whatever water I could (quite a bit came out). It looked dry inside after this but there's not much that you can see inside the small opening of the K850i so kept it in the sun for about 4 hours (didn't keep it longer as the sun's pretty hot here) and now it's with me. I plan on taking it home and keeping it next to the AC or with some silica bags. I've not yet tried putting the battery back into it. I'm just praying that it works coz it's gonna be a lot of $$$ down the drain (pun intended) for 2 days with the cellphone.

Do let me know if there's anything else I should be doing. The screen half of the cellphone wasn't the portion immersed in the water.

In continuation to my previous post, I went home and kept my cell over the computer monitor for the night. Yesterday morning I put the silica bags in the sun to dry (they've being lyiing in the cupboard for ages and had probably soaked up all the moisture they could). In the afternoon I took the bags and put them in a ziplock bag with my cell. The silica bags I have are made by my dad and are really big so not even one would fit inside the slot of the K850i. So I shoved some rice into the slot. Today morning I removed the cell from the bag and emptied the rice. Also took a vaccum cleaner over the whole cell (just in case) and then put the battery in.

Viola, it's working absolutely fine. I've tried all the functions and there doesn't seem to be any problem. I'm so happy Smile All you need is patience. I didn't try switching it on for almost 2 days.

A few hours ago, I was on my way home from work on my bike when I got caught in a storm and a consequent flood (its the monsoons).. When I floated/drove/swam my way home after 30 more minutes of the pouring rain and flooded roads, I pulled my Ngage QD outta my jeans to see the display FULL with water (and a live mosquito larva too... i think) The backlight and the kepad lights were on and flickering. I pulled out the cover, sim, battery, mmc, faceplate and have managed to get the water (and the larva) out but now its acting up. My kid sister switched it on but it wont start but the keypad lights come on way brighter than usual and the display just flickers. I REALLY need this cellphone up and operational at the soonest. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
