Motorola Trialing Unlicensed Mobile Access product

Motorola announced it is trialing its Unlicensed Mobile Access product with seven European carriers, including TeliaSonera Denmark, news that further hints at the eventual convergence of wide and local area wireless networks.

In conjunction with the trials, Motorola also said it will operate a clinic for operators to detail the business case for both UMA and IP Multimedia Subsystem technology. Motorola said its UMA product allows users with GSM/Wi-Fi phones to roam from wide area to local area wireless networks. The product also allows operators to charge for such services.
