Cingular will become the third wireless carrier to launch a mobile music offering, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal, with a service that will allow users to “side load” tunes from partners Napster, Yahoo Music and eMusic. Sprint Nextel became the first operator to launch a full-track, over-the-air download service last year; Verizon Wireless followed suit a few months later.

Apprently, Cingular will not offer over-the-air capability at launch, according to the report. The operator is scheduled to add the feature next year.

some more news:

Cingular Music will provide Windows Media Digital Rights Management on select Cingular handsets giving users access to subscription based music for playback on their mobile phones through the use of their own personal computers.

Cingular teamed with Napster, eMusic, and Yahoo! Music to allow users the option for hitting the road with their music in hand. Unlike its competitors that offer pricey downloadable music services, Cingular Music allows users the option to easily transport their existing subscription based music library from their PC over to their handheld. Subscription based services like Napster, eMusic, and Yahoo! allow their users to pay a monthly flat fee to download unlimited DRM protected music for playback on their PCs and Windows Media DRM compatible MP3 players. The five Cingular Music handsets, with their DRM support, can be used in the same way, with music "side-loaded" from the PC to the phone.

Beginning November 6, customers of Cingular will be also be able to access 25 popular music streams being offered by XM Radio Mobile for US$8.99 a month. Channels available include: The 70s, 80s, and 90s channels, Top 20 on 20 (Top 20 Hits), Lucy (Classic Alternative Hits), The City (Hip-Hop/R&B Hits), XMU (Indie Rock), Bluesville (Blues), America (Classic Country Hits), and Viva (Latin Pop Hits).

Cingular offers 5 phones with the integrated Cingular Music application:

* LG CU500
* Sony Ericsson W810i
* Sony Ericsson W300i
* Cingular 3125
* Samsung SYNC
