Additional details of the next possible palmOne Treo smartphone have now been posted. The new image and details reveal a slightly smaller unit with a revised keyboard, a higher resolution screen and bluetooth connectivity.

Speculation persists that the next Treo will keep the same form factor and layout with a number of refinements and improvements, most notably a new high resolution 320x320 pixel 65k color TFT display and integrated Bluetooth. It will be powered by Palm OS 5.x, have 32MB of RAM and run on a 312 MHz ARM processor.

The upcoming smartphone will also have a new 1.3 Megapixel camera with digital zoom and video capture, new dedicated answer and disconnect phone buttons and a SD/MMC expansion slot with SD I/O. There will also be a number of software improvements including many web browser enhancements. Some other features include a removable battery, push to talk support and a new cradle/cable connector.

Stay tuned for more info.

We have a name! palmone's long-awaited Treo 650 smartphone, the update to last year's popular Treo 600 smartphone, will arrive in the 'not to distant future'. The Treo 650 features improvements in almost every area, with a faster 312MHz processor, 32MB RAM, 320x320 pixel resolution display (compared to 160x160 in the Treo 600), and one megapixel digital camera. One of the major features lacking in the original Treo 600 was Bluetooth support, so we're glad to hear that it is very likely that Bluetooth will be implemented in the upgrade. Other improvements include a mirror for taking self portraits, a bigger speaker, a slightly more recessed SD card slot, and possibly even Push To Talk functionality. Overall, the Treo 650 looks like a very impressive upgrade with almost everything we could have asked for but Wi-Fi. These are all, of course, approximate specs. You can find more pictures of the Treo 650 at mobile burn.

A new article on the palmOne Treo 650 Smartphone article has been published on InternetNews.com. The piece extensively quotes a palmOne marketing director who confirms previous details and reveals most of the upcoming features of the new Treo 650.

The article on InternetNews.com quote's palmOne's director of Product Marketing, Greg Shirai. He calls the Treo 650 a "better Treo 600" and the piece goes on to confirm a number of previously known details.
The new device retains the Treo form factor, with a color screen atop a mini QWERTY keyboard. The display is 320 by 320 pixels for greater clarity and resolution. The keyboard has been arranged in a slight "smile," allowing for slightly larger and flatter keys with larger symbols on them. [...] The 650 has a removable battery, so that users can pack two batteries instead of the charger. More important, Flash memory storage not only accommodates battery switching, but ensures that data won't be lost if the charge is.
According to current speculation, the Treo 650 will retain the same basic form factor and layout with a number of refinements and improvements. The most notable is a high resolution 320x320 pixel 65k color TFT display and integrated Bluetooth wireless. It wil have 32MB of RAM and run a 312 MHz Intel ARM processor. It also includes a new 1.3 Megapixel camera with digital zoom and video capture, dedicated answer and disconnect phone buttons and a SD/MMC expansion slot with SD I/O.

Leaked photos confirm the Treo 650 will run Palm OS Garnet v5.4.5 and will have 20MB free of usable RAM. The 650 also adds a new larger capacity removable 1900 mAH Li-ion battery.

Generally an informative article, yet consumers still have some concerns or questions (hardcore Treo users.) Such as: Will the built in camera meet quality expectations? Will there be countless bugs to iron out? And will it arrive complete with Wi-Fi P1 SDIO abilities?
