Carrier Devices distributes Taiwan-made HTC devices under the brand name i-mate, and its next release is the i-mate PDA2K EVDO, a Windows Mobile based Pocket PC Phone Edition compatible with CDMA 1xRTT and EV-DO networks (800/1900MHz). Like the GSM/GPRS version (called simply i-mate PDA2k, but also available as T-Mobile MDAIII, Vodafone PVAIII, O2 XDA IIIi) this one also comes with Bluetooth, but without the wireless LAN. gpsOne (assisted GPS) is part of the bundle, and the phone part is capable of Caller Id, Call Forwarding, Call Waiting and Conference call (3 way call). It's also capable of switched circuit data (9.6kbps) and SMS (MT/MO).
Like its sibbling it has a built-in backlit keyboard (39 keys) that slides out, a 400MH Intel CPU, 128MB RAM and 64MB ROM. The Pocket PC runs on Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, and supports infrared plus SDIO/MMC cards. The device comes with a built-in digital camera (VGA, 640x480pixels), and the screen is a 3." 240x320 (QVGA) TFT LCD. The 1.380mAH battery provides 3-4hours talk time, 168 hours standby, with a 72 hours data retention period.
Bluetooth support includes Headset, File Transfer, Information Exchange, Serial Port, Personal Network Server and Dial-up Networking Server profiles.
The PDA2k EVDO will complement the lineup of Windows Mobile devices announced by Carrier Devices under their i-mate brand. Other devices include the i-mate PDA2k, i-mate Jam, Smartphone3, and Smartphone3i.
There are no comments on what mobile operators will be carrying the new device
