HTC launched the S620 smartphone (code named Excalibur), a device that is targeted squarely at Motorola's Q. The S620, like the Q, is fairly thin, sports a landscape oriented 2.4" QVGA display, and has a full QWERTY keyboard on the front. Unlike the Q, with its conventional scroll wheel, the S620 makes use of the new HTC "JOGGR" control, a touch sensitive strip located on the side of the device that allows its user to scroll at a variable speed, as well as perform a drag and hold maneuver.
The quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE handset also supports WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 wireless connectivity, but does not support 3G connections. It comes with Microsoft's push email support built-in, includes a 1.3 megapixel camera, and also has a microSD memory card slot. All in a package measuring 112mm x 63mm x 13mm (4.4" x 2.5" x .5").
The HTC S620 should start shipping in Europe in October of this year. The device will probably be made available in additional markets under other brand names.
