"Big Brother" question: My employer recently rolled out the brand-spanking newest handheld, with Cingular as the carrier, to repace all company-issued cell phones. Can our IT spooks use this device to track my whereabouts without my knowledge? If so, what else is required on their end? And can I disable this ability, short of powering the unit off?

You could just check the programs for GPS stuff. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to watch people without telling them.... Plus, it's not cheap to have it on ALL phones.
