Cingular has started its high-speed UMTS/HSDPA wireless network in the greater New York City area. The service covers much of Manhattan plus parts of Brooklyn and Queens and an area surrounding the John F. Kennedy International Airport. Other parts of the region with current UMTS/HSDPA coverage include White Plains, N.Y. and a section of New Jersey near the Newark International Airport.
The maps indicate that Cingular will expand its coverage in the area by September. Along with PC cards for data connections, Cingular’s Web site offers customers in New York ZIP codes the Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. ZX10 flip phone with 3G capabilities.
