NTT DoCoMo Launch MMS in 3 Countries

NTT DoCoMo Inc. launched multimedia messaging service among its i-mode users and customers in three other countries beginning July 1. Users of DoCoMo's FOMA third-generation service will be able to exchange text, images, video and music, while second-generation users will be able to exchange text, as well as receive, but not send, images and video.

The service is available to subscribers of Hutchison Telephone Co. Ltd. and Hutchison 3G HK Ltd. in Hong Kong, SingTel Mobile in Singapore and Hutchison Telephone (Macau) Co. Ltd. in Macao.

Outgoing messages will be converted to MMS format, and incoming messages to i-mode format. Senders must enter the country code, telephone number and @mms-j.jp. The charge is 91 cents for a message under 30 kilobytes and $1.80 for 30 KB or larger messages, plus packet charges based on file sizes. Recipients pay only packet charges.
