well, maybe I'm just slow but there have been some major changes over at Rogers. Cell phone fees for wireless add ons like call display and voicemail have gone through the roof. gone are the days where you could pick and choose one or two features. It appears Rogers has gone ahead and opted for 'packages' of wireless features. This means you pay more, or save more, depends on your position.

If you really only need one or two features than you'll be paying through the nose (I saw that tongue in cheek, but hey, it's your hard earned money.) If you have lots of feature son your phone, then you may end up saving.

For example. Back in the good ol days (I can't say exactly when the values changed, but it was at least 2006 November) basic voicemail cost $5.00. Call display was $3.00 = $8.00

Well today, if you wanted those two services alone, it will cost you $12.00

Both have been increased (actually all wireless add ons individually have increased). That means, to save money you get the 'wireless essentials' packages. What does that mean? Well now you get call display, voicemail, and name display, and 'whocalled' (not sure what that is, other than reiterating what call display and name display already have...) All of this costs $10.

Obviously, that's a huge savings, if you needed all that junk. Fact is I only needed voicemail, but that's 6 bucks now... I wanted call display, that's 6 bucks, so now I have 4 features for the 'price' of 2......

I could have paid 8 bucks and saved 22 bucks a year.... Some people will say 'what's 22 bucks?'. Others will be peaved with the new moves.... I would be too, some what, especially since Telus actually gives basic voicemail free. So if you were with Telus you could save 48 bucks a year.....And if you wanted just voicemail (no caller id), 120 bucks a year Razz Unreal....

Anyways, for most, it seems you'll get more for less.... for me, I'm finally being dragged into getting these wireless essentials. Honestly, this is the how they'll get people doing more online data usage stuff... they'll just drag them in charging them high prices... but that's another post for another time.
