can't receive sms from South Africa

Hi, my service provider is Bell Mobility and I am very unimpressed because although I can send sms' to my family in South Africa they cannot answer me. However, when they try to send a message to me it does say 'message sent', but I do not receive it. So what is going on here? I am not the only person having this problem as I have many S.African friends that tell me the same story! When I called the 611 number the customer service person told me "the technology does not exist to send messages to South Africa". This is a ridiculous response - how then do they explain the fact that on my old little Fido phone I could send sms'anywhere I pleased. Am I to believe that Bell Mobility is inferior to the other providers? Because it would certainly seem that way! Talya

Bell Mobility has some of the worst converage/international deals in Canada, it's no wonder SMS won't work. Even if you travel out of province (or your service area sometimes) you can't receive text messages. The best bet you can rely on getting msg from SA is have them send you them from bell's text messaging online.

Fido and BEll are different networks remember. Fido uses GSM which the majority of the world is on, and Telus/Bell use CDMA.

Well put it this way, my friend travelled out of her service area, to another province, and I could NOT send her sms (this was 2 years ago mind you) from the internet to her becasue she was outside serivce. If you stay in the city or whever you're from then internet may work (sending sms through internet from south africe on the bell site)
