Symbian OS Verison 9.3 Released

Symbian released its OS version 9.3, touting it as providing shorter start-up times for smart phones and applications. Symbian OS licensees are currently developing handsets based on v.9.3 and product launches are expected next year.

Symbian, which holds about 69 percent of the global market share for smart phone operating system, claims that its newest version also enables smart phone manufacturers to bring their products to market faster and cheaper than older versions of the software. Nokia Corp. is the company’s primary OS customer.

Symbian OS v.9.3 is reportedly backwards compatible with previous versions in the v.9 family.
