Travelling to California

Hi! It's my first time to travel to California.

I would like to know if motorists are not allowed to use their cellphone while driving, even if it's hands-free? I've heard it's quite strict there?

Advance feedback would come handy.

If you are planning to travel there by next year, January 2008, there's a cell phone bill pressed repeatedly in recent years by Sen. Joe Simitian, that would require drivers to use hands-free devices to make and receive calls while behind the wheel.

Violators would face a $20 fine for a first offense and a $50 ticket for subsequent infractions. Exceptions to the driver ban on handheld mobile-phone operations were carved out for public safety-related calls and commercial truck drivers, including those in the farming business.
