Our introductory Motorola V180s are junk. Mine became unusable just over a year after getting it and my husband's did the same about a year and a half into our contract with Cingular. I've replaced my phone with an 8125 but need to find something for my husband. I've been reading reviews online and have yet to find an inexpensive no-frills phone that has decent reception.
I'd love to pay no more than $50 for this phone since my daughter is using it while my husband is deployed and he will replace it with a phone of his choice when he returns in a few months. Reception and dropped calls are problems we need to avoid. Our V180s dropped calls continuously and most of the time we had to stand outside to make/receive a call without it being dropped. Try that in sub-freezing temps in the winter!
Please help me find a phone that I can afford and that will not frustrate us by dropping calls or having a weak signal.

I'd look for unlocked phones if I knew which ones were worth looking at. She doesn't need fancy - just functional. I bought an unlocked Cingular 8125 and the reception on it is much better than it is on the Motorola V180 so although I think the provider might play a role, I know the phone is involved, too. Same house, different experience depending on the phone.
If you can recommend some decent phones that work on the Cingular network, I'd be willing to look for them.

Cingular means any GSM phone pretty much, if you have a budget then you can search here: www.puremobile.com since I know that this site works with them (you can get a coupon code if you find a phone you like.) Mostly new ones there though.
