BCE Ince. agreed Wednesday to pay $275 million for the Canadian fibreoptic assets of 360networks Corp. This move not only doubles cell phone providers (BELL MOBILITY) hold on western Canada, but more importantly, enables Bell to compete with west rival Telus. The largely eastern based company are expanding into the growing west market as noted by this acquisition and early ones - such as the joint venture with Manitoba Telecom Services (BCE now owns 40% stake.) With more competion out west, should provide for lower consumer cell prices, marginally lower that is.
