Bell Mobility announced a Canadian first with the launch of its phone to phone video messaging service available on the new Samsung SPH-a680 phone. This new service takes mobile communications to the next level and gives Canadians the power to capture and send digital video using Bell Mobility's 1X digital network. In addition to this new service, Bell Mobility also introduced the Make Your Own Tone and Caller Ring Tunes services.
Bell Mobility's new video messaging service, powered by LightSurf technology, allows subscribers to share up to 15 seconds of full motion video and sound with any email address or Bell Mobility or Sprint PCS Vision capable mobile phones. Users can also send and save videos to an online album with space for 300 unique items.
The company also announced the Make Your Own Tone ringtone service, a North American carrier first, which converts sounds into a customized ringtone. Customers choose a song or original digital audio file currently saved on a PC; the sound is then converted into a ringtone and sent to the customer's handset via a text message. The Caller Ring Tune service provides an interesting departure from the "ring ring" sound traditionally heard by callers when making an outgoing call to a mobile phone. Mobile phone users receiving calls can assign jokes, sound effects and celebrity voices, as well as songs from categories like "urban" and "rock," for callers to hear instead of the "ring ring."
Bell Mobility's video messaging service allows customers to: - Record 15-second full motion video with audio using the camcorder function; - Create full motion personalized screen savers and picture ID using video clips; - Send each video clip to up to 10 email addresses at one time, or to a Bell picture capable or Sprint PCS capable phone; - Add a 10 second voice memo or text message when sharing a video message;
In addition: - New users receive 2 months of the $5 video and picture messaging bundle; - Bundle: The $5 bundle delivers video messaging customers 10 pictures, 1 video and unlimited wireless Web browsing per month. Additional pictures are $0.50 per picture and additional videos are $0.75 per video; - Pay per use: Each video costs $0.75 to send, plus applicable Mobile Browser airtime charges; - To receive a clip: There is no cost to receive a clip. Viewing costs are included in the Mobile Browser bundle. On a pay per use basis, it will cost $0.05/KB to view the clip. Camcorder phones can view the entire clip, and picture capable phones can view the first frame.
