I am a novice when it comes to cell phones. There has been so much advancement in these devices year to year it makes your head spin. I don't have time to keep up so I need help from someone who does.
I have an old Audiovox Trimode Phone. I am thinking about upgrading to a PDA phone. I have Verizon as my carrier. They indicated that they only support CDMA devices. What is CDMA and what would be the best phone for a PDA, Cell, Phone, Camera, etc, using Microsoft Pocket PC. What should I look for in advanced communications support, i.e. digital signals, etc so the device I purchase can also be flexible enough to adapt to the new stuff that seems to come out daily. What is the BEST PDA/Cell Phone and carrier to support it?

CDMA is just a particular technology that cell phones run on-to dumb it compeltely down...... In the States carriers use primiarly CDMA and GSM. You'll have to find a phone that is compatible with the network. Visit the Verizon website for new cell phones and PDA's, after you know what they are carrying go figure out what kind of PDA you'd like. What features you want, how much you're willing to spend. If Verizon has what you're looknig for then go wtih them, you could alternatively purchase a CDMA phone 'unlocked' and use it on the Verizon network. Or just switch networks all together. Find some more info on what your preferences are then come back here and post what positive and negative aspects are in each of your short listed PDA's, hopefully the board can provide some insight.

What does is mean to but it " UNLOCKED" ?? I have seen verizon's PDA's and I think they are mediocre at best.I don't think verizons ( treo's) come with Pocket PC only Palm PC. I am partial to HP devices but they don't support CDMA, verizons only supported on their PDA's

Well to make a long story short, you can purchase the latest cell phones that networks don't have on their product line but are compatible with their network, (in your case CDMA). Meaning you can purchase an 'unlocked' phone that could operate on any network when you activate it with a provider.

So you don't like the Verizon PDA's? Such as the Samsung i700? DiscussWireless can point you in the right direction for a PDA, but you'll have to help us out. Verizon has three popular PDA's, the Samsung i700, i600 (smartphone), and the Audiovox Xv6600. For your price range of 400-600 all of these phones are available (when you sign on to a multi year deal.) The problem with existing Verizon customers (for any networks) sometimes you can't 'sign on' for two years, only new customers can. What other carriers or PDA's are you looking at? The Treo is very popular where are you located and what other preferences do you have?
