InPhonic.com Mail in Rebate SCAM system
In Jan 2005 InPhonic.com took over the wireless internet business! They bought all the online competitors with one exception. At this moment if you buy from A1wireless.com, wirefly.com, point.com, cellularoane.com, tmiwireless.com and many other small sites you practically buying from inphonic.com.
Once the competition was killed the customer service practically disappeared!

The mail in rebate system they practice:

You can file only after 180 days but NO later then 210 days! Probably they hope you loose the papers or forget

In my case:
I filled the rebates after 185 days (Dec 17 2005)
On Jan 16th 2006 I went online at WhereIsMyOrder.com the check the status. Wasn't available because “probably was lost in the mail”. After I sent them back an e-mail where I expressed my concern about 7 different rebates lost in the mail ( I had 7 diff. envelopes with diff rebates)I received this e-mail:
"Thank you for submitting your recent Mail-In Rebate Application. We have reviewed your claim and discovered that it is invalid for the following reason(s):

The wireless bill(s) we received is invalid"
My bill was dated Dec 10th so is nothing wrong with it!
This answer came after 217 days so in conformation with their rules you can't file again.
Everything is a SCAM. They owe me $650 and
I personally am going to take the case to a Small Claim Court and I am going to hire an attorney to make sure their fees are going to triple.

Again: inphonic.com is a big SCAM.

We sell some inphonic phones here and are aware their time limits are tight. I'd be interested to know how your deal pans out and if you win your case. Keep us posted.

The attorney general of the District of Columbia is reportedly suing InPhonic Inc. as a result of more than 2,000 consumer complaints filed against the company during the past three years.

The attorney general filed suit against InPhonic yesterday in D.C. Superior Court, according to the Washington Post, which said that the lawsuit was based on 2,210 complaints to the D.C. Better Business Bureau. Of those, InPhonic resolved about 1,600. About 1,400 of the complaints involved refund practices, advertising and selling practices, or credit or billing problems.

According to the Post, the suit in particular singled out InPhonic’s rebate practices, saying that the company made rebates “difficult or impossible” for customers to obtain. On example from 2004 alleges InPhonic required that consumers send in a wireless bill at least 120 days old to qualify for certain rebates—but at the same time, the document had to be postmarked within 120 days of service activation in order to get the rebate.

InPhonic representatives did not immediately return phone calls for comment. The Post quoted a written statement from Greg Cole, InPhonic’s senior vice president and corporate treasurer, that said the company believed it “provided clear and sufficient information, advice and direction to our customers” and that “anytime you’re dealing with millions of customers, as we are, there are going to be occasional concerns.”

InPhonic sells wireless phones and services from multiple manufacturers and carriers through Web sites such as wirefly.com and A1wireless.com, and also has a mobile virtual network enabler platform. The company saw losses of $32.3 million in 2004 and $38.2 million in 2005, according to its latest annual report.

We still offer InpHonic Phones because the deals are way above anybody else. We also know the rebates are very tight, we'd be interested in knowing who has had problems. Post back in this forum Thanks.

To see the MANY people who have been dissatisfied with Inphonics (who also owns Wirefly) check out these Cnet forums regarding their scam:

http://reviews.cnet.com/here
http://reviews.cnet.com/here 2

There is also a page dedicated for Inphonic customers who have struggled against Inphonics:

http://www.helpwithrebate.com/

In my opinion, I would not do business with a company who has had their membership revoked from the Better Business Bureau. Check out their reliability report: http://www.dc.bbb.org/report.html?national=Y&compid=23004111
