I'm a current SprintPCS customer, and am hooked on the convenience of using my handset as a modem for laptop internet connection. With SprintPCS I get sometimes 2X dialup speeds, even with the merely 2G phone I have.

I'm a U.S. resident, recently having occasional need to travel in Europe -- sometimes in business circumstances where security rules don't allow camera phones. I'd really love to change providers to Cingular and buy a GSM unit that would potentially roam in Europe, allow (if unlocked) local SIM swapping, and support (ideally) GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA. Further, in the most ideal world, I'd love the phone to be bluetooth capable, with the bluetooth capabilities extending through using the phone as a modem through which a bluetooth laptop might share access the internet.

With Cingular, I see only two 3G phones on offer, both of which brag about their *video* cameras. Have I overlooked some devices, or am I dreaming here -- or are we about to see some device releases that will take full advantage of the technologies already rolled out, at least in parts of the world? Further, am I unrealistic in my hopes of using one device for both voice and laptop internet, or do I really need to bite the bullet and have a PCMCIA card *and* a handset, with *two* wireless accounts?

Thanks for any advice!

The big selling point of HSDPA amongst regular consumers is the fact you can send videos and pictures fast! Hence why video/cameras are on practically every phone. So what about the business user? You may have to look at a PDA for your use.

Try the blackberry forum where i've added a 3g enabled phone. You may want to try some pocket pc's as well. The new technology has limited phones right now in the states, but I"ll keep my eyes open.
