Cingular Wireless and MySpace.com Combine

Cingular customers can use MySpace Mobile to edit their profiles, view and add “friends,” post photos and blogs and send and receive messages under the exclusive agreement.

MySpace Mobile costs users $3 per month, plus standard data usage charges. MySpace and Cingular earlier this year created the MySpace Mobile Music studio, which allows users to create ringtones of original music for download and purchase.

Cingular and MySpace are among many firms seeking a piece of the lucrative market in which teens use wireless data services to stay in touch with their peers. According to M:Metrics, teens ages 13 to 17 are nearly twice as likely to upload a photo to the Web. The firm found 8.8 percent of teens used their phone to upload a photo to the Web, compared with 4.8 percent of all U.S. wireless users. M:Metrics research shows that nearly 9 million kids posted a cell-phone picture in the past month.
