Hello all,

My 2125 bit the dust (after I dropped it several times...). The LCD is cracked, I could have replaced it with one from Ebay but nothing else on it works either, just a white screen with crack marks.

I don't qualify for an upgrade but do for a "discount". I think I'd rather shop around for my own phone, new or used, ebay or retailer. The phone rep said if it's not a Cingular branded phone, even if it's unlocked most likely it won't have an internet connection. I don't think that's exactly accurate, is it?
What do I have to look for in a phone for it to work on the Cingular network?
Do I just pop my Sim card and the unlocked phone will work?
Does it have to be another 2125 for the address book to show up?
Thanks for any help!
Jamie

You CAN buy an unlocked cell phone that was never 'set' for a particular network. These types of phones are TRULY unlocked. (Let us know which one you're looking at and we can maybe get you a coupon.) So you'd just swap SIM cards no problem.

You can ALSO swap SIM cards in any Cingular cell phone no problem. HOWEVER, you CANNOT swap SIM cards with other GSM network phones because they are in fact 'locked' to the network they came from. You can, however, 'unlock' these network GSM phones through various third parties who give you 'subsidy codes'; essentially defaulting the phone back to its manufacturing settings.

Thanks for your reply.
When I swap the SIM card from my 2125, will all my contacts be viewable on the new phone if it's another 2125? What if it's a different phone?

I was thinking about a Samsung ZX10 or a Krzr. Who is "we" and can you get coupons for these?

Thanks again!

Jamie

We = DiscussWireless

We can get you 5% off total purchases at PureMobile.com (who sell unlocked cell phones).

For example, visit the KRZR page and you'll pay 231USD for the new phone.

I can't find any deals on the Samsung phone.

If you've saved all numbers ON the sim from the old phone then everything will come over to the new one.

A cingular phone rep told me that an unlocked phone may not have all features enabled that the same phone from Cingular may have. Is this true? For example, how would an unlocked KRAR be different then a KRZR from Cingular?

Thanks again

i think it could be different because different carriers have different things soo if its unlocked then the phone will be missing some stuff that the other carrier doesnt' have on the phone that's how i see.[Smile]
