Nextel launched its Wireless GPS Platform, which the carrier said would extend location-based services to a broader base of users.

Nextel noted the platform provides large corporate and government customers as well as solution providers with a custom, server-based solution to "location-enable" their existing internal applications. The applications are designed to support all Nextel assisted global positioning system devices, as well as both Java and non-Java enabled handsets.
