Sprint has released the new HTC Mogul on its 3G CDMA network. The HTC Mogul is a Windows Mobile 6 Professional (Pocket PC) based device and aims to replace the Sprint PPC-6700 device. The Mogul is expected offer 20% better battery life than its predecessor along with a host of upgraded specifications, including a 2 megapixel camera, a thumb-wheel, and twice the built-in storage (256MB). At 110mm x 59mm x 18.5mm (4.33" x 2.32" x 0.73"), the Mogul is also thinner than the device it replaces.
While it will only support the original EV-DO Rev 0 data specification initially, a free software update that will be available in the future will give the Mogul access to full EV-DO Rev A data speeds. The Mogul supports Sprint's Power Vision services, including the Sprint Music Store and its OTA music downloads. Mogul supports WiFi wireless networks and Bluetooth 2.0 wireless connections with devices like headsets, including A2DP compatible stereo headphones.
2.8" QVGA TFT touchscreen display, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and a microSD memory card slot, are the other features. The microSD card slot supports cards as large as 2GB, and the Mogul comes with a 512MB card included in the retail packaging. A standard 1500mAh battery powers the Mogul for up to 4 hours of talk time, but an optional 2100mAh battery should beef that figure up by another 1.5 hours or so. Other nice touches include support for Java applications, a speaker independent voice dialing system, and a speakerphone.
