Hi and welcome. Thats a good question. Unlocked will give you far more options in terms of phones without all the bells and whistles. You're right, it would probably be easier to just go with pay-as-you-go, be sure to phone Tmobile and make sure you can hook up an unlocked phone on their network.

It's up to you how much you value paying for the new phone vs. money saved from a free one (if they have free ones). Features v. pay is the question. If you have any ideas of phones that aren't listed in the shop section i'll check for some deals if you post back here. Tx
