[reply] I am currently at the end of a cell phone contract and i am about to move from sprint to verizon. I want to get a new phone, but the ones that i like are only available with cingular or other carriers. I have been seeing all these phones on ebay that are 'unlocked' and i want to know if that means that i have the option to use these phones on the verizon network.
the phones i am looking at are the nokia 6030 and the nokia 5140...very simple, unflashy phones. Can i buy one unlocked and use it on verizon?
Thanks for the help [/reply]
Grimmus: Cingular = GSM network Vrizon & Sprint = CDMA network Generally it is very hard to get CDMA phones unlocked that will in turn work on a different network. CDMA phones are generall 'locked' to the software of the provider who purchased them. GSM phones take a new SIM card and are usually ready to go if they meet the network of your new carrier. So basically, you cannot buy a Cingular phone unlocked (or any GSM phone) and run it on the Verizon network. Your option are limited. I recommend: Ending your current plan, but before that, switch you current cell number with the number portability option, you then sign up with your new carrier and Verizon and you should be able to take advantage of new user deals (cheap phones et.c) What kind of CDMA phones would you be interested in, DiscussWireless can offer you a number of price options for your comparison!
